Study Skills Coaching
MyTutor Plus is Summit’s Study Skills and Organizational Help tutoring program. This is one-on-one, in-home, academic support with a focus on helping your child become a more self-sufficient student.
Perhaps your child’s grades have slipped. You have to constantly ask “Have you finished all of your homework?” Or you are concerned that your child is spending too much time on assignments because he doesn’t know how to study efficiently. You’ve likely tried several ways of helping your child but need outside help. Summit’s organizational and study skills tutors are selected and trained by us to help your child get on track while alleviating parent-student conflict and stress.
Our MyTutor Plus program was developed in collaboration with teen psychologists and neuropsychologists to specifically address the challenges of executive functioning disorder. Whether your child has been clinically evaluated or not, our tutors will assess your child’s needs and recommend strategies for these common challenges:
- Not remembering homework
- Feeling overwhelmed by assignments
- Difficulty prioritizing assignments
- Unsure how to study for a test
- Staying up too late finishing homework
- Not telling the truth about having completed assignments
What can you expect from the MyTutor Plus program?
- Initial needs assessment conducted during tutor’s first visit (discussion with parent(s) and student)
- Time management and planning techniques
- Organization methods
- Note-taking and studying skills
- Communication with your child’s teachers to verify assignments, syllabi, etc.
- Encouragement with accountability
Organizational and Study Skills tutoring is most helpful if your student is struggling with all classes due to an increased workload or recently diagnosed executive functioning challenges. Students often benefit from this tutoring when transitioning to a new school – elementary to middle school, or middle school to high school.
MyTutor Plus is general academic tutoring, meaning our tutor will be able to help with typical school subjects and assignments, grades 4 through 12. If your child is primarily struggling with the content of only one or two classes, academic tutoring with a tutor who specializes in that subject may be more appropriate. A program director will be happy to speak with you about your child’s needs and recommend which type of tutoring will be most effective.
