Summit’s New Peak Essay-Writing Program for 6th – 8th graders

April 27, 2023

With Summit’s Peak Writing Program for 6th – 8th graders, the summer is a great time for our younger students to work on their essay writing skills in this fun, interactive program.

For this age group our Peak Writing Program focuses on helping students to develop stronger reading and writing skills as they are introduced to the foundations of essay writing. The goal of the program is to increase student confidence in their writing abilities, so they are prepared to tackle the more challenging writing assignments that they will encounter as they progress in school.

Through this program students will improve their active reading skills to improve their overall reading comprehension. Our tutors use an “empathy-based” approach; we teach writing essays by starting with how to read well, and then we shift our focus to how we can craft essays that complement what we have learned about reading. Students will learn strategies about how to find and summarize the main idea of passages and individual paragraphs. Through examining sample essays, students will also learn how to structure arguments and how to effectively communicate them. At the end of the program students will write their own 4 paragraph essay to demonstrate what they have learned throughout the program.

The program is about 6-8 weeks and is taught one-on-one with one of our expert writing tutors either in-person or online.  The tutor adjusts the pace and content of the lessons depending on the student’s abilities and scheduling revolves around what works best for you. Because the sessions are taught 1:1, each student receives specific feedback on their progress and their writing throughout the program, which is the most effective way for students to improve.

In addition to Summit’s Peak Reading and Writing Program for 6th – 8th graders, Summit also offers our Peak Analytical Writing Program for 9th – 11th graders to help them improve their analytical reading and essay writing skills.

Finally, Summit’s 1:1 Peak Math Programs for students in grades 4-12 help students to improve their critical thinking and problem-solving skills. These programs enable students to explore math topics more deeply under the guidance of one of Summit’s expert math tutors.

The summer is a great time for students to continue learning and practicing valuable skills that will help prevent summer slide and prepare them for a strong start to the new academic school year. Please reach out to us to talk to one of our program directors to learn more about our Peak programs.
