Our Approach

Whether your focus is test prep, academic, or one-on-one accelerated math and writing programs, successful tutoring programs begin with a baseline diagnostic assessment. We use the results of our diagnostic tests to customize the program for your student. Students in our academic programs start with an initial skill assessment. Test prep students begin by taking an official proctored practice test.

We recognize that every student is unique – in personality, learning style, and goals. That is why we customize each of our programs, putting the student’s well-being front and center. From the first phone call, we make the success of your student our number one priority. Our Program Directors will recommend the right tutoring program for your student. While every program varies slightly, our typical programs are 12 to 16 weekly sessions lasting 90 minutes. Everything is customized to be as flexible as possible. There is no minimum or maximum number of sessions for any of our programs.

After completing a thorough intake to learn about your student’s personality, learning style, and goals, your Program Director matches your student to the tutor who will be the best fit. Our tutors are passionate teachers who know how to motivate, build confidence, and raise scores and grades. A strong tutor – and the right tutor – is essential to a successful tutoring program.

Whether your student chooses in-home or or online tutoring, your family will receive the same great Summit services and results. We believe one-on-one tutoring is the best way to effectively teach students. Each tutoring session is geared to your student. We work with your student to set specific goals, customize lessons, and evaluate progress along the way. A continuous assessment of needs and customization is at the core of every Summit program. After each session, you receive a lesson recap email to monitor progress and to learn of any areas where your student needs additional support.

Checkpoints throughout all of our tutoring programs are an important means of gauging student progress. Students in test prep programs apply their newly-acquired skills and strategies by taking practice tests in a simulated environment. Results from practice tests inform future sessions as tutors and students continue to work together toward their score goals.

Our tutors in academic programs also measure student progress toward key goals. These goals can be based on major assignments from school courses, or they can be more advanced tasks that push students to achieve the highest levels of mastery in a subject.

We’re committed to helping our students achieve their goals…and we know we’ve been successful: 85% of our families are referred to us by school counselors, educational consultants, and other families we’ve worked with.
